Old News (2004) December 31st: Todd used to be one of the main characters. His importance kind of waned in the new version, but I'm working on bringing him back to the forefront. Ray was always one of my favorite characters to write for. I don't know why I draw his eyes as though he's wearing glasses (which he's not), and what the deal is with the one long, crinkly hair. All I know is that when I showed the character to the real-life Ray, he laughed hysterically. This told me the character was a keeper. December 30th: Chadette has been in the comic from the original version. I can't really imagine the comic without her. Nuts was a later inclusion. Both of these characters have stories of their own to come up later on. December 29th: Ended up taking off some unintended holiday time. Hope everyone had a good one. Justin was an actual kid at my Highschool. He smelled bad, and his personality stank worse. Ash, however, is a composite of a couple of very dear friends of mine. He's the most fun character to write for. Anytime Ash is into something, you can be sure I'm a fan of it too. December 24th: Happy Holidays to everyone. I have a very special Dan's Life for you, and a couple of sketches on the Junk page. Hope everyone's having a relaxing and fun time off. Dana has been a nutcase in the comic for almost the whole time. Somebody has to be. That's really all I have to say about him. December 23rd: Summer has been a long-standing enemy in Dan's World. She gets crazier as things go on. I just always thought it fitting that the quietest girl ended up causing the most waves. She's a living statement on outdated ideals and misplaced righteousness. I really need an animal-rights extremeist character. December 22nd: Boffy has been a central character from the beginning. It's just fun to write for a bitter, egocentric talking dog. He gives a different kind of perspective to the story from the other characters. Kind of like Toby. Nathan was never an important character before. I'm just now finding a lot more to do with him. There's going to be a sort of evolution of his character as time goes on. December 21st: Self-contained strips for awhile before returning to the storyline. I'd like to give a little character commentary as we go along. Jeremy has changed quite a bit as a character over the course of Dan's World. I'm working now on reintegrating the original concept for the character with a new twist. Tabitha is a composite of a couple of different characters. She's based on a good friend of mine from High School, much as the rest of the characters. Expect her to play a big role in the story as it unfolds. December 17th: Didn't quite make it to the update yesterday. Everyone was sick. I went ahead and archived it. Doubled-sized strip today just because I couldn't fit everything into one strip and I was ready to end the arc. December 8th: I think all the computer problems are cleared up and Dan's World is back to business. I really want to be caught up and running smoother by the end of the year. Double updates and weekend strips for everyone. I just want to take a moment to thank everyone who've stuck by me through the sporadic updates and unexpected disappearances. I know it's been a hell of a year, but I'm really going to try to get everything running smoother for next year. First step: new computer. December 3rd: Back again. The computer went screwy again. I'm springing for a new computer early on next year, so there will be one less reason for me to go on hiatus. Luckily it was just a week. I will (hopefully) be updating over the weekend to catch up. In other news, I've been taking the down-time to reorganize my notes. I now have a strong outline from here until next September. More stick-figure goodness for everyone. They're nutritious! November 25th: Stick figure nudity. Well... almost. I guess it was bound to come to this eventually. Hope everyone's having a great holiday. Me? Sitting around drinking coffee and finally playing Final Fantasy X. Hopefully the comic strip wins out over the game this time. We'll see. November 22nd: So I ended up just taking a week off. I worked overtime on Dan's World these past few days, and I'm ready to bring it back full time. My time off gave me some perspective over the directions the story is headed. Expect some major changes in the storytelling and the characters. (And yes, I am going to kill off one of the characters.) To make up for the latest hiatus, find enclosed two bonuses. A new Bonus strip inspired by the answers to the polls. Also the first in a week-long string of new Dan's Life. Enjoy! November 19th: Another hiatus. Sorry about that. Some problems cropped up in my personal life and in Dan's World. I have to do some emergency scripting changes and probably cut out a couple of characters. I'm not going to let the strip die, so don't worry. When I've got some things figured out, it'll be back. It shouldn't take long. The other reason for the hiatus is that a project long in the works is coming back. A few weeks from now, a new comic is going to premere. I'm really happy with how it's turning out, but that's all I can say for now. November 10th: The strip is still going strong. Next week I should have some more Dan's Life strips ready for you, and a new Bonus. I'm really happy with the turn-out for the polls. Any feedback is welcome. My e-mail address is on the bottom of the screen, by the way. I love hearing from my readers. There's a new question on the poll also. Some of you long-time readers may be wondering whatever happened to Usagi no Tsumi. (If you don't what I'm talking about, you can read about it here.) I have as little idea of the status of this as you. My artist is going through some things right now, and it's very probable that she's abandoned the project. If you'd like to see some of her art, go here. If I hear anything about what's going on, I'll post about it. November 4th: Now we have a poll, thanks to my ever-helpful fiance. Take a moment and let your voices be heard. In other, seemingly unrelated news, Dan's World is temporarily missing its Guest Book. You win some, you lose some. November 2nd: Now that the ultra-hectic catching-up task is over, I'm free to update the rest of the site. I started with the Links page. This has been needed for a long time. I weeded out some of the older stuff and added a new favorite. Check it out, and visit these people. They have talent. October 31st: The other half of the Split story. If you missed out on it by not visiting on the weekend, make sure to check the archives. Like I said before, this is a vital storyline. Also there's a double-sized Dan's Life and the next Exclusive Strip. From here on out we'll be back to normal. Sorry again about the hiatus. Now that I'm caught up, I'll have time to revamp the site, and update the neglected pages. Thanks for sticking around. I promise things will run smoother from here on out. October 30th: Two more days and Dan's World is finally up to date. Triple updates for the next two days. This is a very important storyline in the series. Things will never be quite the same after this one. Also, don't forget to keep checking Dan's Life. October 28th: I'm almost officially caught up. Next week I'll finally be reverting back to my original schedule. For those of you who have forgotten (since we've been doubled-up for so long) Dan's World will be one strip Monday-Friday. There will also be a few more bonuses for you. Starting with this new Dan's Life strip. October 18th: Well, it looks like Vegeta: The Comic is a success. Thanks to everyone who's been reading it. And if some of you found your way here from there... thanks for giving my older, less-appreciated comic a chance. This is really where all my energy goes. There will be more Vegeta strips in the near future. Imago is hard at work on the Trunks model now, and Bulma is still being a pain, but I've got a stockpile of strips written, with a lot more in development. Oh, and when you get the time, show her some love too. Her comic is really going into overdrive now, and there are some big things in the works over there. (I'm not telling what, though.) October 15th: We're right on schedule now. I should be caught up and back on single updates by the first of the month. This particular storyline is one I was leading up to almost from the beginning. I'm happy with how it turned out. Hope you like it. September 27th: I busted my ass (and my hand) on Dan's World these past few days. So now I'm almost caught up. The storyline that's running now is going to change many things permanently, and have lasting repurcussions. So pay attention. Takes notes if you have to. At this rate I should be caught up within a month. I hope everyone's enjoying the new story arcs. September 25th: I've finally reached the storyline I've been building up to for awhile. Also, the Bonus page has been updated twice since my last note here. September 21st: Okay, so I've reached the point in continuity where it's going to be okay to post the new Bonuses. Check the Bonus page. I'm really happy with the new strips. Hope you all like them. September 19th: The scanner is fixed, the computer seems to be working a little better, and here's the update. The Bonus strips are ready, but then I realized that they'd spoil something coming up in continuity, so you'll have to wait a couple of days for them. In the meantime, enjoy the next storyline. Big things are coming up in nearby strips. September 15th: And I'm back again. I was suffering from computer problems, stress, and lack of motivation. But now here's another update. Over the next couple of days I'll have a couple of new Bonus strips, but since the scanner still isn't working, those will have to wait. For now just enjoy the first of many double updates. August 13th: Belated Friday the 13th update. Things continue to be hectic, but they're starting to calm down again. Sorry for the sporadic updates. It'll all even out eventually. Donnie and I went to see the Yu-Gi-Oh movie today. I highly recommend it to fans. If you're curious about the game or anime, give the movie a shot. It was entertaining. How could any movie that warns of "Scary Combat" be bad? August 9th: Dan's World has returned! Long hiatus there, but none of you seemed to have minded. I'm back now, and I wasn't just relaxing during the break. I'm well ahead of where I should be right now. So I archived two extra strips for this update, and have a bunch of bonuses for you. Check the Bonus page for a new Dan's World Bonus strip. Also I decided to go ahead and post the Exclusive Boffy strip that nobody won by signing the guest book. That's here. And finally, I have my first-ever guest strip, done by Imago. You'll find that here. I have another Guest Strip coming up, once I can work out some scanning issues. There will be a few new Dan's Life strips and a couple more regular Bonus Strips once I get the time together to finish them. Thanks for your patience, and enjoy the double updates. June 25th: In celebration of finally catching up, check the Bonus page for two new Dan's World Bonus strips. June 24th: Finally caught up. It'll be single updates from here on out. Thanks for sticking with me through the erractic updates and the long unannounced breaks. I think it's going to be smooth sailing from here on out. June 22nd: The faded effect in the new Obscurity strips is entirely due to Imago's proficiency in Photoshop. My plan to set these strips apart failed, but she helped me pull it together. Oh, and I've been hearing rumors that Project Rabbit may be returning... June 14th: Thanks to everyone who signed my guest book. It's still looking a little sparse, so tell you what... sign my guest book and I'll send you a super-exclusive bonus strip. Same deal for anyone who e-mails me at the address below. In other strip news, I messed up my hand pretty bad doing ten strips today. So there will be plenty of updates for the next couple of weeks. Once I catch up, I'll update everything else on the site I've fallen behind on. June 13th: More unscheduled downtime. Weather, exploding computer, the elusive printer software. Plus I've been on baby-duty for two weeks. All in all, there wasn't much time for updates. Thanks to everyone who visited the strip while I was gone. Now I swear I'll catch up. May 30th: A big-ass tornado and hail-filled storm and three solid hours of computer fuckups. And yet there's still an update. Don't say I never did anything for you. Heh. May 29th: I seem to be catching up to where I'm supposed to be. I should be back to one strip a day soon. And here's the last Dan's Life for awhile. This one has nothing to do with cybernetic eagles. Or does it? May 28th: Another double update and another Dan's Life. May 27th: I'm still impressed with each small landmark. Here's the 300th strip. And on a very special Dan's Life, my love of cybernetic eagles finally goes too far. May 23rd: After a few hours of fighting with the computer, here's the update. Jinny's back, and the technologically-advanced adventure continues on Dan's Life. Enjoy! May 22nd: So I overestimated my work ethic again. Blame the weird new shift and Final Fantasy VIII. Anyway, here's some new strips. And another new Dan's Life. No promises about getting back on schedule... that way you'll be surprised when I actually do. May 13th: For the first time in three weeks, I'm having an actual weekend. So I finished the last two strips from last week, and finally got around to inking the new Dan's Life. This new shift should be good for getting my strips done on time. Keep checking back. I should be caught up before my new work week starts. May 10th: Well, I was caught up. But now I've switched to 10-hour shifts at work and I've taken on more responsibilities. This spells delays for the comic. The good news is that in my off-time I've been charting out future storylines and sketching the next month's strips. I've pretty much got solid material until October. Then enough backlog of ideas from years ago to last until at least 2006, if not beyond. So Dan's World, despite its continuing disappearances, is going to be around for awhile. I'm actually going to have a weekend in a couple of days, so expect the updates to start up again. And here's an update on the Mystery project. Thanks to Imago's suggestions, and her fluency in Japanese, the project now has a name. This is a manga-style webcomic that's going to be drawn by a girl who's like a little sister to me, and its name is Usagi no Tsumi. More details as they become available. May 1st: Sorry I haven't updated in a couple of days. Things have been hectic lately. I'll get it together soon and return with all the strips I missed. I really miss Project Rabbit. I need to get back to work on that. April 26th: I'm almost healthy again, and I'm back on track. Barring anymore computer problems or sinus explosions, you should get updates for the rest of the week. In fact, there's four new strips today. (I archived them.) And once I get the time, I'll have about five new Dan's Life strips. April 22nd: Sorry about the lack of updates. I'm not going to fall very far behind. I've been sick and hanging my head over the paper is giving me a migrane. I'll be back in a day or two and just archive all the strips I missed. I'm just dropping by tonight to give some news updates. Imago's comic is still going strong. If you haven't read any of it yet, have a visit. My girlfriend designed a great guestbook for the site. It's just crying out to be used. (You'll find it along the side on the usual options.) To those of you who found me from Keenspace, welcome. There's a couple hundred more strips here for you to read. To those of you who didn't find me from Keenspace... I've started a mirror site there. And finally, in the news of my mysterious new project... I officially have an artist now. She seems happy to be on board. (Now if I could just find the time to do some rough storyboards...) More news as it progresses. April 12th: New storyline. More strangeness ahead. There's also a new holiday Bonus strip. I've got another new project in the works. It's still in the design stages now. It has nothing to do with Dan's World, Dan's Life, Vegeta, or Project Rabbit. This is something completely different. It'll probably be a long time before I get it off the ground, but keep an eye out here for more details as they develop. April 6th: Yeah, so Sunday I took an unscheduled day off. I had to work again on Saturday and got the next few months of story arcs charted out, so when update time rolled around I decided to rest up. I went ahead and archived Monday's strip. Enjoy! March 31st: I know I didn't have a Link of the Month in March, but here's a headstart on April's. Imago has a new comic that she just started. Fans of her work should cruise over and check it out. It looks like it's going to be a great strip. You'll find it here. March 29th: Welcome to Dan's World Year Two. There are some big storylines sketched out for this year. I'm be doing a lot of my old stories and updating them for this incarnation of the strip. Hope you enjoy the drastic turns the story will be taking in the coming months. March 27th: Celebrating one year of Dan's World. I wasn't sure I'd make it this far, and honestly... a few times I was about to just scrap the whole thing. But I'm glad I waited and saw it through. Updates today: Check the Bonus page for a brand new Vegeta strip. There's also a new Dan's Life strip (I actually took a little bit of time on this one) and two new Dan's World Bonus strips. The Junk page also has a couple of new sketches. I updated a couple of other pages, too but the Bios page will have to wait. I have work today. I think the one that amuses me the most is Bonus#12. This one, surprisingly, took three times as long as a normal strip. Check it out. Thanks for all your support over the past year. Everything so far really has been a beginning. So the story's just getting started. March 17th: Remind me to never again point out that I've caught up. Every time I mention it here, I seem to miss a day or two. Well, I'm back on track now. The renovations have begun. You may notice that there are no more pop-ups. My girlfriend is to thank for that. She got me onto a server that seems pretty good so far. In other news, I've got very little work done for next week. If anyone's been keeping track, Dan's World's one year anniversary is coming up. March 27th. I've got some plans for that. Stop by for a visit. March 11th: So I'm all caught up. Single updates from here on out. So now I can work on stockpiling strips so I don't fall behind again. And I can bring the Bio page and Story page up to date. I have to hurry with the revamps. There are big things coming. A huge landmark is drawing near, and I have some plans in the works. Also, Imago and I had an impromptu brainstorming session about five a.m. yesterday morning and she gave me some really good ideas for new story arcs. And a great launching point for Project Rabbit's possible return. So, I guess what I'm saying is, stick around. I'm just getting things started. March 5th: That's it... the end of a six month-plus storyline. Next up is a group of stand-alone strips. I'm sure that'll be as much a relief to you all as it will be for me. Thanks for sticking with me this far. The full groundwork for the rest of my story is now set. We can only go forward from here. March 3rd: Welcome to my new readers. Hope you enjoy my strip. For those of you just joining us, we're near the end of a several month long storyline. Tomorrow will finally be the end of it. Then there's going to be a quick epilogue and things can get back to normal around here. (Or as normal as they ever were.) Oh, and in thanks for the compliments I got tonight... New Dan's Life strip. February 27th: The storyline is really underway now. I'm going to end it with a bang. Things are really going to change when we reach the end of this one. Collaboration updates. Imago is teaching me Photoshop. I'm a pretty bitchy student. New things scare me and piss me off. She did the hearts for me on Strip#235. God help me the next time the story calls for blood. I'm trying to coax some more Vegeta comics from her, but I think it'll be awhile. And I think Project Rabbit may be over for good. I loved the hand drawn art, and I grew to love the new concept of them being in 3-D. But it may be time to lay the bunnies to rest. They'll just remain stick figure outlines in my notebook. If you'd like to see more Vegeta and more Rabbits, drop me a line at my personal e-mail aether_rabbit@yahoo.com or write Imago at Imagorabbit77@aol.com. Save the bonuses for everyone and let your voices be heard. So that's my last plea for help for this month. Tune in early in March when I beg for cigarettes. February 23rd: I'm back! Big update today. I caught up on alot of the work on the site, and put up some Bonuses for you all. Before I talk about that, I was informed that a certain web artist has been bashing me. No shocker there... it's not the first time. Welcome to those of you who found my strip through that link. I hope you enjoy your stay. And no, I'm not going to retaliate. I took the Buzzcomix farce in stride... I laughed about the bizarre hack-job that sent my comic nearly to the top of the list on Eyeshock... I'll laugh about this too. I'm not here for flame wars or name-calling. I keep my opinions to myself where other people's art is concerned, and I do my best to not judge others when they engage in these sorts of antics. But enough of that. That's my soapbox for the month. Back to the task at hand. First off, we're back to our regularly scheduled storyline. Secondly, Check out the Bonus page for a new strip, a Dan's Life strip, and the premiere of the top-secret project I've been hyping all month. Vegeta: The Comic. 3-D art by Imago Rabbit, and story and concept by yours truley. Updated iregularly, mainly as a bonus. There'll probably be at least one a month, though. Now to get Imago to 3-D render some Project Rabbit for us... February 19th: Okay, no more freaking out. I haven't abandoned the strip. Things have just been too hectic lately for me to keep up on my regular updates. I'm hard at work trying to get a stockpile of strips done, so I can make my regular updates again. Expect many bonuses along with those when I return (within the next couple of days, so keep checking back.) including the top secret project mentioned below. That's right, the collaboration is almost ready to be unleashed! February 3rd: Happy birthday to me. Here's a big update to make up for being gone. I swear I've been struggling to catch up. Three strips today, and a new Bonus. Hope you enjoy. January 29th: Strip's back. I'm working hard to catch up. My pens were under the bed, a few feet away from where I was looking. I don't have the bonus strip done yet, but expect that in a day or two. Double updates over the weekend too. On a better note (a note that has nothing to do with me screwing up) I'm scripting next week's strips, and I'm happy with how the storyline is shaping up. Hope you enjoy. January 24th: Sorry. Ran out of pens and didn't have the time to get more. See how thin the lines on the most recent strip are? You'll get some bonuses after I get back. I have a couple of Bonus strips in mind, and work is still going full steam ahead on the secret project. Thanks for visiting. Drop me a line to let me know what you think of the strip... or just to tell me what a jerk I am for all these unexpected hiatuses. Things will get more routine around here soon. You'll see. January 22nd: Here goes. The end of the long storyline. Here's the payoff. It's still going to take awhile to finish up, but we can move on to bigger and better (and shorter) stories soon. Hope you enjoy. January 21st: I kind of went into a sort of coma this week, due to overwork and undersleep. But I'm back in gear and rested up. Double updates. I swear I'll be more dependable soon. January 15th: I should not be allowed access to a notebook when I'm drunk. As a result of this, my collegue Imago and I will soon be unleasing a secret new project. I'm writing, and she's working on the art. Details are going to be sketchy for now, but I'll tease you with a couple of the plans. It will be a new comic. It will be a bonus-type thing, updated whenever we feel like it. It's home will be here at Dan's World, but it will look unlike anything else here. We're both very excited and a little too amused with the concept. More news as it develops. In other collaboration news, Project Rabbit is temporarily on hiatus. It'll return in a brand new form at some point in the near future. I'll post the announcement here when it's back. In the meantime, if you've never checked it out before, take a look. The strips that are there will soon be greatly altered. It'll be better and more evolved when we're ready to bring it back. January 13th: Back on schedule. Here's a storyline that's been in the works from the beginning. This story really hasn't changed much from Dan's World v1.0, except for the fact that Gruesome was hideously ugly and there was no time machine. Okay, so I guess it's quite a bit different. Oh well. Next up is the long-awaited end of the big storyline. Thanks for sticking it out til the end. It'll pay off eventually, I promise. January 9th: Okay... explanation time. My girlfriend's computer, where Dan's World is currently located (since my computer is a complete and utter bitch to me) caught a nasty virus. Well, not really a bad one, just a majorly irritating one that erased almost every .exe on the hard drive. So we're rebuilding, and we have things back to the place where updates are again possible. I'm sick of double updates, so expect strips this weekend so I can catch up. Sorry for the delay, but thanks for checking in. January 1st: Happy New Year everyone. No bonuses today because I'm sick. But I had time to fix the Bios page and archive the news. Contact me with comments and advice at: aether_rabbit@yahoo.com Back to Main News Page |
